Annual Hymn Sing, August 29

Gary is a native of Charleston, West Virginia, graduating from Stonewall Jackson High School, and a cradle-roll Presbyterian.  He went on to receive degrees with honors from West Virginia Wesleyan College and Garrett Theological Seminary, Chicago.  He began working in the Presbyterian Church in 1975, ordained in 1980, and came to the First Presbyterian Church of South Charleston in 2005.   He is married to Paula Lowther and they have two children, Stephen and Amy.  Paula is an Associate Professor and is Director of Library Services at West Virginia Wesleyan College, Buckhannon, West Virginia.

 

Dot Thomas, Director of Music Ministry & Organist

 

Dot was born in Cortland, New York, graduated from Goldsboro Senior High School, and studied organ at University of North Carolina at Greensboro.  She completed graduate school at West Virginia University in Social Work and Psychology.  Dot retired from Prestera Mental Health Center.  She loves music, family, reading, and collecting angels.  Dot has two children, Jodi and Heather.

 

Mark Hornbaker, Director of Chancel Choir

 

Originally from Tempe, Arizona, Mark is Director of Choruses at George Washington High School.  Formerly he was a college instructor for 17 years (including University of Charleston).  Mark teaches private voice students,performs in community theater, and has sung with the West Virginia Symphony Orchestra.   

 

He comes to us with the following credentials:

Becky Smith, Office Manager

 

Becky is from St. Albans, West Virginia, and lives in South Charleston with her husband, David.  Their daughter, Jan, lives in Dunbar with her husband, Brian, and daughter, Ellie.  Their son, Dave, lives in South Charleston with his wife, Nikki, and daughters, Emily and Natalie.  Becky graduated from St. Albans High School and West Virginia State University.  Becky has been at First Presbyterian for nearly 20 years and enjoys reading, cooking, walking, and spending time with her family.

 

Lisa Calderwood, Director of Youth Ministry


Lisa is a graduate of South Charleston High School and West Virginia Tech.  Formally a leader in the church's youth group fellowship, she is now active as staff programmer for the youth, including the annual youth mission trip, Presbyterian Triennium, and an elder.  Lisa enjoys arts and crafts and loves spending time with the youth at Bluestone.


David & Janet George, Custodians                                

 

Both David and Janet graduated from South Charleston High School.  They have three children, Cathy, Tom, and Jim.  David is a Korean Army veteran, having worked in the quartermaster corp.  He retired from the State Alcohol Beverage and Control Commission after 50 years of service.  Janet was a secretary/receptionist for a Charleston law firm.  She likes reading, walking, and spending time with family while David works in the yard and enjoys a good game of golf.

Bonnie Logan, Director

 

Bonnie is from Sherman, Texas, a graduate of Gig Harbor High School, and is currently taking classes toward an Associate Degree at West Virginia State University.  She has over twenty years experience in child care and is a Certified Child Development Specialist.  Having worked in Texas for years, she is a natural Dallas Cowboys fan, loves animals (especially horses), children, reading, and NASCAR.

 

Tracey Dickson, Assistant Director

 

Tracey is from Fairmont, West Virginia, and lives with her husband, Mark, and their two children, Madison and Cooper.  She is a graduate of Fairmont Senior High School and attended Fairmont State University.  Tracey is a Certified Child Development Specialist, and is trained in CPR and first aid.  Tracy enjoys painting, reading, walking, spending time with her family.
